The Medical Law and Biotechnology Center at the University of Warsaw was established in response to the growing interes in research and teaching the issues of medical law and the regulatory environment of biotechnology, pursuant to the decision of the Faculty of Law and Administration of the Warsaw University of October 13, 2008. The Center for Medical Law and Biotechnology brings together professors and PhD candidates of the University of Warsaw specializing in private and public law issues of medical law, in particular: international and European health care regulations, constitutional foundations of health care, private medical law, pharmaceutical and administrative, criminal and disciplinary law medical law, as well as issues in the field of medical ethics and biopolitics and new technologies in medicine.
The first Head of the Center was prof. dr hab. Marek Safjan, the former President of the Constitutional Tribunal of the Republic of Poland, since 2009 a Judge of the Court of Justice of the European Union. Since 2018 prof. dr hab. Leszek Bosek is the Head of the Center and a Judge of the Supreme Court of the Republic of Poland.
